Our Mission

Stack of BooksThe Rock Valley Public Library exists to make readily and freely available to every citizen in the community the most wanted materials of all kinds, to serve as a point of access for any needed information, and to provide for the operation and development of a variety of library sources and programs to meet the recreational, educational, cultural, intellectual and creative needs and interests of all segments of the community.

The Board of Trustees of the Rock Valley Public Library, facing the responsibilities of providing the community with access to information, current as well as retrospective, pro and con, that is within the means of the library funds provided by the community, has adopted the following statement of purposes and selection of materials policies.

Service to the General Public

Aware of its responsibility to meet the informational needs of all, the Rock Valley Public Library will continue public library tradition by supplying books, magazines, newspapers, audio and video material, and other resources to provide the public with materials making it a dependable source of knowledge and opinion. The Library will endeavor to present both sides of controversial issues.

The library will facilitate informal self education of all people in the community, serving the needs and interests of the general public.

The library recognizes the educational, civic, and cultural activities of groups and organizations of the community. The Rock Valley Library will strive to meet their informational needs from its own collection of material or supplement additional information through interlibrary loan and access to the internet.

The Rock Valley Public Library will strive to meet the needs of students through understanding their educational needs and research demands. Although the library is not a school or university library, it will seek to provide, within reasonable demand, materials for student use. 

This resource is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by State Library of Iowa.
